Maya Angelou died earlier this year leaving a profound legacy of poetry and  activism. Early in her childhood, Maya was raped and the subsequent events surrounding that experience left her traumatized and unable to speak for years. She was a powerful spirit and she overcame to become one of the most distinctive and extraordinary award winning voices of our time. Many have heard the poem, Still I Rise and the autobiographic “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings”!
